Almost 30 years ago, the Harford Land Trust worked with several local community groups to purchase over 145 acres of forest and marshland between the Bush River and AmTrak railway not too far from your apartment in Aberdeen. The resulting Forest Greens Lake Preserve is one of the most beautiful and diverse nature preserves in Harford County, and a vital public resource for hiking, cycling, running, and other forms of outdoor recreation.
Wildlife enthusiasts will find plenty to appreciate here, with a variety of birds that range Baltimore orioles and hummingbirds to native waterfowl and even bald eagles. Deer, beaver, and other mammals also call Forest Greens Lake their home, while native plants in the area support pollinators that keep the local ecosystem vibrant. Most importantly, as part of the Chesapeake Bay Critical Area, the preserve helps to safeguard local waterways from runoff and pollution.
